AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.

MONTHLY MEETING. Tho Canterbury Automobolie Association met last evening, tho President, Dr. Louibson, in tho chair. The following new members were elected: —Messrs N. Beadel, J. Johns, G. E. _». Scale, W. S. Smily, A. D. Boag, _>. A. Baxter, R. Barnett, and C. J. Jones. A donation of £'10 to the competition fund was received from tho Dunlop Rubber Company. To be thanked. ' 'Ino Manawatu Association wiote, stating that it was pleased with tho reduction effected by tho local Association in regaid to freight payable on cars between "Wellington and .Lyttelton. Tie Hawko's Bsy Association wrote to the same effect, explaining that it was felt that the wharfage charges on motor cars at Napier were too high', and information as to the Tatcs ai Lyttelton was asked. Tho Wairarapa Assocla_on and the Otagd Motor Club also wrote offering cong-.atulations.

The Town Clerk wrote, pointing out that once certificates had "been issued there would still bo work for the expert to do in connection with privately owned cars, _s during the six months ending 30'.h November, 485 care and motor cycles, exclusive of re-regis-tration, wo;e registered, and many of the drivers would requiro certificates. The beach races on Saturday, February 15th, were cancelled, and the hill climb will be held on that date. The President and Messrs F. W. Johnstone and D. Crozicr were appointed a sub-committeo to make the necessary arrangements.

It was Tepor'-ed that February Bth was Orphans' Day, and the run was to bo to Mr Walter Parkinson's pluce at Kaituna, whoso guests the children would be.

Dr. \V. H. Simpson reported that ho and Captain McLean had journeyed over tho {rial course to Kaikoura, an_ stated that the route was a most satisfactory one. Tho report was adopted, and it was decided to hold the trial on March 7th and Bth. A vote of thanks was passed to Captain McLean for placing hi 3 car at the disposal of the combit'-ee.
