COLLISION BETWEEN TRAIN AND
MOTOR CAR
THREE MEN INJURED

LWERCARGILL, January 13. A collision between a railway train and a motor car occurred this evening at Grassmero, resulting in three young men —Eric Russell, Eddie Broad, and George Broad —being admitted to the hospital, suffering from cuts and bruises.- TKere were five occupants in the car. When the car approached tho railway line it was seen'that tho incoming train from Kingston had passed the Grassmere station, aud would probably cross the road. Russell, who was driving, applied tbo brakes, and turned the car towards tho cattlcstop, but a collision took place. Tho impact hurled Russell over tho wind screen on to the cattlestop. Eddio Broad" had' some ribs broken, and George Broad sustained cuts and bruises. Walter Broad was thrown violently against the "fcltopl Look out for the engine," signpost, which ho clasped, and then slid to the ground uninjured. Alfred Broad was also thrown out, but escaped with a shaking. .
Both the car end tho train wero travelling slowly at the moment of the collision, and to this fact is probably duo the slight nature of the injuries sustained.

A'fall of eartli took place in onoof tho slopes, crushing Joseph Senior and ]>avid Christie. TJio latter was buried beneath tons of dirt, and when his body was recovered, lifo was extinct. Tho body, which was knocked about, was found closo to the face, whero Seniors' wa3 also recovered. \
PALMERSTON N., January 13. John Sloniic, who belongs to Auckland, was seriously injured in a collision between a motor-cycle and a trap near Lonßburn, on Saturday night. ASHBUIITON, January 13. "While cutting with a circular saw at Stavelcy, on .Saturday afternoon, Robert' McCullough met with a serious secident. The belting of the saw came oif. and in attempting to readjust it' while the machinery was in motion, he £ot entangled. Both legs wero fracisrcVl, and his jaw was aleo injured.. Ho was brought*-to the County. Hospital, where he was still lying in a very critical condition at 11.30 to-night.
INVERCARGILL, January 13. A well-known resident of Invercnrr>ll, Tlios. McCarthy, 64 years of age, was found dead in his van at Gap road yesterday. It is understood that death ~as duo to heart ,
TlilAltU, January 13. Bert Hilton, tho iive-year-old son of Ocorgo Hilton, a fruiterer, fell through a skylight at Marriott's'drapery siiop yesterday. A fall of 30 feet was broken by tho boy striking v brass rod and dropping on a pile of dross material. His head was severely cut, find ho received concussion of tho brain. Uo is still unconscious.
