PARIS, Decern ot-r 31. M. Pirou, Mayor of Goutilly, who is reputed to bo wealthy, has been arrested on a charge of attempting to murder Madame Chabrux, the widow of a banker, and her sister. The evidence is puroly circumstantial, but it is admitted that Pirou entered into loan negotiations with tho banker prior to tho latier's death. Otherwise the caso is mysterious. ELUDING SERVICE. NEW YORK, January 1. Mr Rockefeller is eluding service of tho subpeenas citing him to appear bofore tho Money Trust Investigation Committee. SHIPBUILDERS AMALGAMATE. LONDON, January 1. The shipbuilding firm of Swan and Hunter has arranged a merger with Barclay, Curie and Company, of Gbisgovv. Tho output of the two companies is two hundred and thirty thousand tons yearly. Sir Francis Fo\ s report to tho Chapter of St. Paul's states that immediate remedial measures aro imperative to secure the safety of tho Cathedral.
