AN EVIL STAMPED OUT.

Advices from Southern Nigeria report that the British Commissioner has stamped out a recrudescence of tho long-standing juju rites. Several chiefs and priests have been condemned to death, but the chief Kanuckuru, tho arch-conspirator, escaped with threo years' imprisonment, owing to inability to fasten a murder charge on him. Threo thousand slaves, victims of juju, were found hidden near Kanuckuru's compound. Kanuckuru amassed a fortune of £500,000 from the slave traffic.
