MR ALLEN IN MELBOURNE. A CONFERENCE. United Press Association—By Elecfcrio Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, Decomber. 2-1. The Hon. J. Allen conferred with tho members of tho Commonwealth Defence Council on the question of naval policy in the Pacific. Mr Pearco stated that the proceedings would be confined to informing Mr Allen of what the Commonwealth was doing. Mr Allen ovinced tho most friendly feeling for Australia, and approached the question with an open and sympathetic mind. He thought that as tho result of his visits to the Commonwealth and England, Mr Allen would form some valuable opinions on defence, and added that the outlook could be described as hopeful. Mr Fisher said there nad never been any antagonism in tho Imperial Defence Conferences to the idea of joint action by the Dominions in tho South Pacific. It was really a matter for New Zealand to decide. Mr Allen's mission was one of enquiry only.
