MAY BE MODIFIED. United Press Association—By Electric "Teles** aph—Copyright. OTTAWA. December 17. The 'Free Press" states that Mr . Borden will probably modify his naval programme in the direction of adopting part of Sir Wilfrid Laurior's policy of a definite fleet unit.
IN THE PACIFIC.
THE HON. J. ALLEN INTERVIEWED. SYDNEY, December IS. The Hon. J. Allen, in an interview, expressed tho opinion that Now Zealand, Canada and Australia would join hands some day in tho defence of the Pacific. "It is too much to ask tho Mother Country to do it." said Mr Allen, "thai, is our duty." During his visit to Melbourne, .Mr Allen will attend a meeting of tho Australian Defence Council at Mr G. F. IVarce's invitation. (Received December lfHh, 12.5 a.m.) Defence circles arc taking v keen interest in Mr Allen's visit. It. is considered certain that tho Admiralty's advice to New Zealand will bo to join Australia iv an Australian Navy. Mr Allen arrives and will bo accorded an official reception .on Saturday. Ho will be entertained by the Government at luncheon on Monday.
