STRIKE FORESHADOWED. UniUd Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY. December 18. The High Court's decision in tho Merchant Service Guild case has caused much dissatisfaction to members of the organisation of inter-Stato shipping, and a strike is predicted it the companies revert to tlie old rates of payment. Tho men are determined, if the proposals shortly to be placed before the employers are not accepted, to cease work in each State.
SEAMEN'S WAGES.
THE PROPOSED INCREASE. LONDON, ibecember 17. Tho decision is awaited of tho Shipping Federation in connection with the previous decision to substantially increase all wages from January Ist, m consequence of the increased prosperity in the shipping trade. The Tyne Committee has fixed the rises at 10s a month for oversea vessels, and 2s 4d weekly for coasting vessels.
