BOROUGH COUNCILS.
SUMNER. Tho Sumner Borough Council met on Tuesday. Presmt —'ine Mayor (MS 11. J. Marnner), and Crs. T. li. Boulton, G. TV. C. Sm.thson, E. F. Dorman, TV. S. MitcheJ, J. VV. Lid, G. Brewer, and J. D. Lawrence. An alteration to tho Sumner Brass Band deed of tiust was approved. It was decided to hold a special meeting on the 27th inst. to go into the questions of drainage and water supply. Mr Patterson's offer to provide tho cost of a water supply for Scarborough was accepted, the work not to be put in hand till April. Building permits" to tho value of £2080 wero issued during the month, making a total for the year of £15,432. No action was taken in regard to the Domain Board's proposed Bill to levy a rate for tho upkeep of the Domain. It was decided to ask Mr Murley for permission to fix the sunshine recorder on his property, and also to ask him to look after it. Tho clerk reported that tho bath-hove© boiler had been stayed in accordance with tho instructions of the Inspector of Machinery. Cochrane and Co. stated that the cast-iron mains for the gasworks had been forwarded by tjic Ruanehu. A pipe-layer's license was granted to TV. Petersen.
SPREYDON.
The Soreydon Borough Council met last evening. Present —The Mayor (Mr TV. Gahagan), and Crs ft. R. Whiting. TV.' H. Atkinson, J. W. Bowles, TV. H. TVinsor, Thos. Thornton, R. Powrie and S. A. Hancock. Tlie Water Surmly Committee of the City Council stated that it would supply water for certain streets at ls per 1000 gallons. On the recommendation of tho Finance Committee it was decided to approach the Valuation Department in regard to a revaluation of the borough, the committee considering tho matter urgent, owing to the increased land values. Delegates were appointed to attend a meeting of local bodies at tho City Council Chambers, to discuss the small Turds' nuisance. The Burgesses' Association wrote, drawing attention to tho prevalence of noxious weeds in certain parts of tho borough.
