The taik is that an agreement which is alleged to have existed between certain shipowners in Australia, and JNe.w Zealand, to the effect that the companies carrying -on the intercolonial trade would not cut into the coastal traihe on the warmest eido of the gasman Saa ha& expired, and that the .Australian, companies have .refused to renew the agreement or "mutual understanding." Rumour adds taat in the near future steamers with funnels painted differently from the familiar all-red and all-buff colours, will run in the intercolonial trade, i with the result (so it is predicted) that f freightage and fares will be reduced. |
