LYSOL POISONING CASES.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGEAM.) AUCKLAND, November 28. The Hospital Board unanimously resolved to-day:—"That the attention of the Public Health .Department be drawn to the number of lysol poisoning cases that have been recorded, and the Board recommend that some restriction should be placed on the sale of the poison."
"If people only knew the awful suffering which attaches to the taking of lysol they would never take it for the purpose ofveommitting suicide." Such was a casual remark made by the city coroner (Mr Thomas Gresham) at Auckland on Monday. Tho subject of reference was tho number of cases in which lysol had been iised of late, either in regard to suicides or attempted suicides. The previous day a middle-aged man had been taken to the hospital suffering from lysol poisoning, and on Monday a woman, aged about fifty, was charged with having attempted to commit suicide by taking tho same fiery lotion. Still another lysol tragedy occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning at Grey Lynn. Sub-Inspector Hendry remarked, when seen by a "Star" representative, that one of the suicidal waves which, like many other phenomena came in cycles, had been passing over Auckland, and strangely enough several lysol cases had occurred. He confirmed the remarks of the coroner with regard to the agony attaching to the use of this form of poison, and thought that people of suicidal tendencies should realise the suffering involved in that method' of bringing about their quietus.
