Through mistaking Sis instructions tho Commander of fcho Frontier Brigade in tho district of Meurthe-et-Mosollo, on tho border between Franco and Germany, directed a general mobilisation instead of a local one. Tho iiiou available in seven communes assembled beforo tho error was discovered. Tho commander has been arrested.

There wero extraordinary scenes at Nancy. M. Blion, the Brigadier of Gendarmes, who was arrested, believing a telegram was an order to mobilise, opened his scaled instructions. Tho church bells wero rung, and tho town crier roused fivo thousand men from their beds. Posters wero hastily pasted on walls sjinimoning all between the ages of twenty-five and forty-five to join the colours. Reservists left weeping wives and hastened to headquarters.
It was fivo hours beforo tho error was discovered. Meanwhile military telegraphists took possession of the post offices, sections marched to protect the railways, and patrols hastened to tho frontiers.
