THE PROPOSED DENTAL WARD

DISCUSSION BY HOSPITAL BOARD.

Tho long-pending question of the establishment of a dental ward in connection with tho Christchurch Hospital was brought up again at yesterday's meeting of tho North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. In tho Public Health Committee's report it was stated tliat representatives from tho Dental Association had met tho committeo to discuss tho matter, and that local dentists were highly in favour of tho proposal, and woro willing to give their help as soon as tho Board should decido to starwork. Tho committee could not at present lay any definite proposal beioro the Board. Mr C D. Morris said that the committeo harl been considering tho proposal for three months. Ho moved that tli? committee should bo asked to facilitate the presentation' of somo definite proposal. Mr W. W. Tanner stated that tho matter had been under consideration for at least two years. Tho chairman (Mr F. Horrell), who is also the chairman of tho Public Health Committee, said tho committeo wanted to arrive at som.thinc definite beforo bringing down a report on the matter. After somo further discussion Mr Morris's motion was carried. Tho establishment, of a dental ward was proposed nearly two years ago, tho old oifico of the' Board being suggested as a suitablo building, but on the receipt of reports, which had to be sent for from Auckland, tho proposal was rejected, tho Board deciding to wait until the new isolation -block had been built.
