AMBULANCE DAY
Saturday next will bo Atubulaac. Day, thc occasion of the St. John Anlbulaneo Association's annual appeal to the public for funds to assist tho Association in its work. Out of the funds collected on past Ambulance' Days, the St. John Ambulance Association has established 20 depots of first aid appliances in Christchurch and suburbs, and another 20 in tho surrounding' districts. Tho Association has also two u_.-to-d_.te ambulance, and a depot of stretchers, dressings, and other stores at tho headquarters of tho Association. Tho depots aro looked after by members of tho St. John Ambulance Brigade, and tlio cost ;of replenishing them after uso is considerable, it is hoped, ais funds permit, to increase thc number of these public depots, which are a necessity in thickly populated districts. It may bo safely assumed, too, that out of the 600 persons who are annually instructed by tho Association there will bo someone in .the vicinity when an accident 1 occurs who knows what to do pen-ting, the arrival of a doctor. Tho # Association's expenditure in connection with these classes of instruction exceeds the . receipts, and tho comroifcte-t trust that tho result of tho appeal being mado on Saturday next will enable them to con* tinuo tliis good work.
