MEETINGS AND SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
The concluding meeting for the season of tho New Brighton Band of Hope_was held on Friday evening. The. Rot. A. H, Scrivin occupied the chair. There was a large attendance, and an excellent programme was' gone through, consisting of recitations by Miss R. O. Goodwin and G. B. Nicholls; a reading by Mr P. Pattrick; and a song by Master Joe Thompson. Miss Ruby Spratt was accompanist. Mr Nicholls gave an address. The secretary's report of the year's work was very satisfactory. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr G. B. Nicholls for his address. The monthly meeting of the Addington Burgesses' Association was held last Wednesday night. Mr G. W. Atmore occupied the chair. Correspondence was received from . the Christchurch Tramway Board, stating that they could not see their way to alter tho stopping place of cars at Munning's corner. A letter was also received from tho City Council, stating their willingness to givo a few band performances in Addington as soon as tho residents provided some sort of stand to play on. A committee, consisting of Messrs G. W. Atmore. D. Brown, G. Gydo, and F. Wilson wero appointed to see to the matter. Sir G. W. Atmore was appointed to act as delegate on the Executive of the joint Burgesses' Associations. Considerable discussion took place with regard to the dust nuiasnee on the Lincoln road, members all. agreeing that more water was required. The secretary was instructed to write. to the City Council regarding tho matter. A missionary meeting was held last evening in tno Primitive Slethodist Church, Sydenham. R:v. C. E. Ward presided, and gave an address on mission work. Mr I. Fit_simmons and Mrs H. Field also spoke. A very clear and encouraging report was given by Miss Miry Kent. Tho Sydenham and Suburban Cooperative Money Club, at a meeting held on Monday, elected Mr Richard Wright as a trustee instead of Mr Edward Jones, diceased. Mr John Hadfield was elected to the conmittee in Mr-Wright's place. At a meeting of tho Anti-Militarist League held last night, a resolution was carried "expressing indignation at the refusal of the Government to remit the entire fine imposed upon Mr W. H. Reynolds, of Christchurch, in the recent prosecution instigated against him by the Defence Department for exhibiting without an imprint a list of boys imprisoned under tho Defence Act."
