GIRLS' TRAINING HOSTEL.

CITY COUNCIL GRANTS £100. A deputation consisting of Aiessrs Geo. Scott, H. R. llusbndgo, and J. H. Howell, waited on the City Council last night in support of a request that the Council should give a special grant towards tho cost of building of the Training Hostel at the Technical College. After hearing the deputation, Councillor Otley moved:—"That the Council regretted it had no funds to give for the purpose." Cr. Hunter seconded the motion.

. Cr. Cooper moved, seconded by Cr. E. Smith:—"That tho sum of £100 be voted." t On a vote being taken, thb Council was equaily divided, Councillors Cooper, Smith, Williams, Morris, and the Mayor, voting foi the amendment, and Councillors Hunter, Millar and Burgoyne, Taylor, and Otley against it. Tho Mayor gave his casting vote for the amendment which was carried.
