ARMY MOTOR RESERVE.
AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION APPROVES SCHEME. At a meeting of the Canterbury Automobile Association last evening, Dr. Louisson presided. Colonel G. S. Heard, Director of Military Training, gavo an address appertaining to the formation of an Army Motor Reservo, the details of which have already appeared in "The Press." On the motion of tho Chairman, ; seconded by Mr T. L. Cowlishaw, it : was resolved:—"That this meeting thanks Colonel Heard for his address, and pledges itself to give the Government every assistance in the formation of an Army Motor Reserve." In returning thanks for tho Association's promised assistance, Colonel Heard said the Defence schemo was on a firm basis; but it was in danger, arising from the want of active sympathy from the public. It was all very well to awake and say: "Let thero be a Defence Scheme"—and then turn over again. Active sympathy and help wero needed from all who could help tho schemo forward. Thoso who joined the Motor Corps would be giving assistance which would bo valuable. If tho young men in the Territorials found that thoso who should care were careless of them, and were not co-operatiug m their labours, they might lose heart. Ho would not say that this was the case, but there was a danger that for this reason tho scheme might not prosper as it should. Ho looked to all classes to encourage the young men who were learning to defend their country. It had to bo realised how necessary such preparation was. Things were not good in Europo. and no man could tell when this country might find itself swept by the back wash of some world-wide war.
