TEE FISHING SEASON.
OPENS TO-MORROW.
The season, for trout fishing in the Canterbury district will commence tp-morrow. Licenses—£l each for adults and 5s for ladies and boy a—axe now obtainable in Christchirrch from Messrs ■ Mason, Struthera and Co., J. T-riet, W. H. Tiadull, and E. Eeece and Sons; and in tho country districts from Messrs J. Johnston, Rangiora; J. G. "Weaatcll, Glentunnel; G. Fisk, Kaiapoi; J. A. Cunningham, Leeston; Hugh Nimmo, Cobs; Blackett and Son, Rangiora; K. Ferguson, Little River; D. Howat, Cuat; "W. H. Alford, East Oxford; W. A. Peez, Annat; J: R. Sweeney j Cheviot; and J. Hoglund, Spring-fie'-d. ,
Tho regulations provide that no trcut under nine inches may be taken or killed by any person. The license doca not entitle tho holder thereof to catch any fish for site purposes. No fishing is allowed this season in any part of the Avon from tho watercourse near tho bend of tho river on the Riccarton road through the city to the Colombo street bridge, and no fishing other than with artificial fly or minnow from the same point, viz., watercourse near the bend on the Riccarton .road to the Cartton bridge, during the months of October and November. No fishing except with artificial fly or minnow allowed in the Selwyn river from the Selwyn railway bridge to the EKesmero railway bridge during the months of October and November. Fishing in Victoria Lako and Horseshoe Lako i 3 absolutely prohibited. The breach of these, or any other regulations,. renders tho offender liable to a fine of not less than forty shillings or more than fifty pounds. "With regard to lake fishing, the "Gazette" of March Hth last eets out that:—The season for fishing for trout in Lakes Rubicon, Grassmere, Lyndon, Miramar and Sarah rhall commence on the Ist day of December in each year, and end on the 30th day of April in the following year. It shall be unlawful to take trout by angling from coats of any description whatever on the lakes ■ hereinbefore mentioned. Any person committing a breach of the foregoing regulations is liable to a fine not exceeding £20."
