DRUNKEN SPREES.

A prohibition order was granted against an Addington resident in the Mag.strate's Court on Saturday, the police evidence revealing that defendant was in tho habit of having Sunday carousals in his house.

Constable Pratt, stationed at Addington, said that the defendant was a confirmed drunkard. He was in the habit of getting a lot of drunken men round him, and taking them to his house, where he usually had a '-barrel'"of beer for them. On one occasion, "''witness went to defendant's, house-on Sunday, iv response to complaints, and he found defendant, with a number of other men, drinking from a keg of beer.' Constable Diinlop said that he had found, defendant and other men in an empty house drinking from a keg of beer and 1 a bottle of methylated spirits. Defendant's wife appeared and said that, she did not wish an order to oo taken out, but the Magistrate, Mr Bishop, told her to stand down. Mr Bishop (to defendant;: Now, have you got anything to say? Defendant i Yes, your Worship. Ever since I .have lived in Addington I havo been persecuted by the police ■Mr Bishop: That will do —order mado to take effect for 12 months.Defendant: Can't 1 appeal against that? The Magistrate: No; get out of tho Court as soon as you like. -, ■
