DIOCESAN STANDING COMMITTEE.

Tlio Standing Committee met on August Cth. A report by tho subcommittee for religious education was read, presenting recommendations mado by a 'sub-committee of the; D'ocesari 'Sunday/School Teachers' Association, .-nd\eiolutionk founded upon them for' tho consideration, of .ho. Standing Committee. It was resolved that a copy of tho report containing the recommendations referred to should bo sent to each member of tho Standing Committee. The sub-committee on building plans and loans reported on a plan for an addition at the eastern end of the Mission Hall, Shirley, and their recommenda-. tion thereon was. adopted. Thc ™ ar and wardens of Kaiapoi and Woodend wrote asking the consent of tho Standing Committee and of the Church Property Trustees to the sale of the Woodend vicarago property. It was decided to ask the trustees to obtain a valuation of tho property, power being giveu them in respect of the sale. The Archdeacon of Christchurch reported on - proposal of the Oxford County Council to purchaso a strip of tho frontage of Rs. 131 for road widening. A petition for tho re-const'tution of Kaiapoi, Woodend, and Clarkvillo as a parish was ordered to be brought before-the" next session of the Diocesan Synod. A letter from the vicar of Lincoln in reference to tho Greenpark Church was read and received, enquiry to bo made as to the result of a meeting of tho respective Church wardens on the matter. The Rev. Canon Seduwick wroto asking tha. a public meeting nrght bo held in tho evening of the day fixed for tho opening of tho Diocesan Synod (October Bth) in tlie interests of tho Maori Girls' School at Ohoka. It was agreed to recommend tho Synod to adopt it motion to be mado by Canon Sedgwick for' an adjournment for this purpose. Archdeacon Jr«coi> forwarded a proposal for the erection of Beneonsfield, Kingsdown, Pn<-ron Enst, and Claremont,.into a parochial dipt riot, and an alteration of tho boundary of the parish of Timnru for this purpose. Direction was given that.notice of tho proposed alteration be sent to the cures affected therobv. Application for tho usual cnp'tal grant of £2-50 for the purcha-rt-of a vicarage and land at Tinwald. opposite the church there, was referred to the Archdeacon of Akaroa for import, and power to act on a favourable report was given to the Church Property Trustees. Permission was given for tbe removal of the schoolroom. St. Michael's. Christchurch, to tho southern side of tho school reserve, with a view to the erection on its present s't-o of a new sciVoVoom in substantial materials. W-itten application to tho diocesb of W.iiapn for the services of a M-iori priest, to reside and work ; n the Chntham Islands, was directed to bo made on behalf of tho Standing Committee. «

Archdeacon Ensor, "that the Standing Committee promote a Bill at the next session of Synod to alter financial regulation No. 67 so as to bring churches under the regulation as well as vicarages:" (9) By tho r* et ._ Mr Mao _ kenzie Gibson, "that the Standing Committee recommend the Synod to allot a stipend from the revenue of the bishopric estate, if funds aro available, for a releving priest for the diocese, whoso primary duty shall he to assist over-worked and rest-needing clergy."
