WELLINGTON, July 16. Mr Joseph Lachmim, for many yearo manager of Messrs P. Hayman and Co., died yesterday at the age of ?3.
A well-known and, highly-respected resident of the Winton district (Southland) passed nwny recently, in tho person of Mr David McKenzio. Mr McKenzio was n Justice of the Peace, and hnd for many years taken a worthy part in the public affairs of his district. At a sitting of the Magistrate's Court in Winton, appreciative references to tho sterling character and worth of the into Mr McKonzio were made by the Magistrate (Mr G. Crtnckshank), the Mayor of Winton (,Mr McWilliam), and Mr G. MeD'onaild (representing the lesal profession) J and sevtral Justices of the Peace who had had long association with Mr McKenzie. It was decided to forward a letter of condolence to Mrs McKcnrio and family, to be signed by the Magistrate and Clerk of the Court.
