RELIEF WORKS.
TO TIIK -JDITOU OF "THE PRESS."
Sir, —In my search for work t last week visited "tho import sheds at thc railway station, hoping to get a few hours' work there. I did not get tho work, hut I found out why work was so scarce, and that is because more than half tho goods are imported instead of being made locally," as they could be. Then thero would be work . for thousands of men at tho various ports. I trust our local members of Parliament, the Trades' Hall Committee, aud every member of -their Unions will pay a visit to theso sheds next time thero are a couple of oversea steamers discharging, and see for themselves why men aro unemployed locally, when tho cheap, sweated products of other countries aro coming in. Then, perhaps, the long-promised revision of the tariff will be no longer delayed while men and their families starve. —Yours, etc., WORKER.
