LINCOLN COLLEGE BOARD OF GOVERNORS. Tho monthly meeting of the Board of Governors of Canterbury Agricultural College was held in the rooms of the Canterbury A. anil P. Association yesterday. Present: —The Hon. E. C. J. Stevens (chairman), • Messrs .M. Murphy, T. Blackley, H. A. • Knight, J. "Deans and R. E. Alexander, the director. The report of Professor Scott upon the new electric power plant and lighting installation •at the • College was read and adopted. The report, which was a highly technical one, embodied the results of teste carried out by Professor . Scott and was a. satisfactory one. , . • -•■-*' Tho annual report of the work dole during the past year was presented by the director, Mr R. E. Alexander, and was read and adopted. The report is to be forwarded to, Parliament, and until it has been before tho House is not for publication; It may bo mentioned, however, that it was of a very satisfactory nature. The number of students had .kept up well. There were now about 54 in residence, and these men were doing good work. -The important matter of the seed .selection work that was being carried out oy Dr. Hilgendorf was going on satisfactorily, and it was anticipated that in two or three years the college would be in a position to sell seed to farmers that could bo guaranteed true to type, and superior in' quality to most varieties now sold- The college stock had been very successful at the Summer Show of the. Canterbury A. and P. Association, and had gained first championship, first reserve championship, six first prizes, fire second prizes, two third prizes, seven v.h.c. tickets and ten c. and h.c. tickets. Tho interest taken in the institution by the public was demonstrated by the fact that over two hundred visitors had visited tho place during the twelve months, including sixty visitors from .South Canterbury Associations. Considerable discussion took placo **egarding the advisability of purchasing a straw press for baling the straw. The Director said that a good deal of straw was wasted, and he thought that tho baler would have an educational value for the students. Much moro use could be made of straw than was usually the caso on New Zealand farms, and he thought the machine could be made to pay its way. Last year the college had disposed" of about £20 worth of straw, and ho thought that if a baler was used the sales •could probably be doubled. It was eventually decided to leave tho matter over for the presentAcoounis to the amount of £990 ISs 2d were passed for payment.
