OXFORD.

The Oxford County Council met on Tuesday last. Present—Messrs "H. Campbell (chairman), C. F. Bassett, 3*. Baxter. H. T. Cooper, J. Cross, J. -McCormack, and J. Wells. Tho surveyor recommended that a flume be placed in a water-race embankment in Jot 39, reserve 2331, and boulder stops in No. 2 race, to prevent scouring, and deepen the race in R.S. 15549. It was resolvt-d to call for tenders for clearing tussocks on Rockford and McPhedron's roads, and to repair Thomson's road. It was decided to patch part of the South Eyre and Ramey'r- roads, to form the north end of Wright's road, and plough the south end of that and the Carlton roads to destroy the manuka. It was resolved that the Hangrora-Oxford road from the boundary east of Bennetts, to West Oxford, the Ashley Gorge road, and High street, aud the Depot Gorge road, bo declared main roads, and,, that application tie made to the Government for a grant towards the cost of re-forming parts of the Ashley Gorge and Depot roads, and for building a reinforced concrete bridge over the view Hill Creek on the Depot, road, a swing foot bridge to be placed over the creek in the meantime. A genera] rat© was struck of three farthings in the £1, 3nd a bylaw was made for the Eyre and. Cooper's Creek water-races. * Tho Oxford A. and P. Association wero granted permission to take shingle from one of the Council's pits. It was decided to provide street lamps where a supply of acetylene gas from private installations can be.procured. A ratepayer ' request cd the Council to call a" public meeting to protest against the new valuations, but it was considered that not sufficient interest would be shown, and but few would attend. An application from a ratepayer for the erection of a bolster in Cooper's Creek at !u's own expense was granted. A reso'iitjon was passed for notices to be served on thirty-six ratepayers to clear gorso from road*.
