MEDICAL INSPECTION OF SCHOOL CHILDREN-
THE GOVERNMENT MAKES A MOVE.
(FRXSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, April 30. The question of establishing a system of medical and physical inspection of school children, which has been discussed ibr some time past, has taken concrete shape at the hands of the Hon. J. A. Ha nan. Minister for Education. ' Proposals submitted * by him to Cabinet have been approved, and authority yiven for tho purchase, of weighing machines, etc. The appointment of two medical inspectors has aleo been authorised, anu applications for tho positions will shortly be invited. FREE UNIVERSAL EDUCATION. Tho Minister for. Education has'also been giving some attention to the question of extending the facilities for free education at universities, and Cabinet has now decided, in pursuance of prooosals put forward by Mr Harian, to extend the principle of free education, by opening tho door to the university by means of bursaries, somewhat more widely.
