BEATH AND CO., LTD.
Tho display of Dominion products in tho.windows of Messrs Beath and Co., Ltd., this week reflects great crouit both upou the firm and upou tho manufacturers represented. Tho outstanding feature, of tho goods exhibited is quals"ty. -There is a "good" look about everything shown that impresses one as a most healthy indication of tho state of tie woollen eoods trade in tho Dominion. This is as it should bo; in a country so young and prosperous as ours there should bo little or no demnnd for low grade articles of the "shoddy" character. No. 1 window is devoted to a display of "Hygeian" underwear for men. Th:'s is made especially for Beath's by tho Kainpoi Woollen Co. from the best colonial wool, and is an established favourite with Canterbury men. A splendid, warm, healthful 'underwear it is, and an ample safeguard against tho rigours of our climate. In No. 2 window, men's top-coats are shown, and these also bear tho "Kaiapoi" hall mark. In quality, design, and make, they compare most favourably with the best which can bo imported from any part of the world, and there is a. wide ranee of colourings and patterns to select from. Tho nest window is probably tho most interesting of all to the ladies, for it -contains a show of winter costumes. Several Dominion manufacturers mal:e a speciality of ladies' highgrado costumes, and in order to meet the competition from abroad they have secured tho services of the most skilful cutters and designers, some of whose best work is shown here. Wo strongly adviso all Indies to make a point of seeing this display. The show of underclothing in No. 4 window, in which all tho principal mille of tho Dominion are represented, indicates that in this branch of tho industry New Zealand hae little, to fear from outside competition. In No. 6 window there- •is a show of Roslyn hose for ladies and hoys which leaves nothing to be desired. Many people will bo surprised at tho magnificent display of Dominion-mado dress fabrics in No. 7 window, for great strides have been mado in this industry during tho past year. The patterns show that the local 'designers have koT»t well abronst of tho ttraes, and tho fabrics are delightfully soft and becoming. In the next window are some winter blouse materials of equally high merit. Passing on to No. 9 window wo find further evidence of tho progressive policy pursued by our manufacturers, for it exhibits a collection of ladies' coats and paletots that would do credit to London or Paris. * Tho designs are most tasteful and varied, and in pointof finality they come up to the ,best traditions of the trade. Lnst. but not least, comes a disnlny of blankets, etc.. a product in wh'ch wo can fairly claim to lead the world. All the leading mills aro included in this exhibit, and with winter now at our doors, this is an excellent opportunity for house-wives to ■ compare qualities nnd select winter stocks. Messrs Boath and Co., Ltd., are to bo congratulated on tho whole display, which indicates another forward step in the history of tho Dominion, and should help to givo New Zealandors a better knowledge of the products of their country. Tho manufacturers have done their part; the retailers have- done their part, it remains now for tho -public to do its part by asking for goods "made in tho Dominion."
