Professor J. Macmillan Brown, M.A., LL.D., who retired by rotation from the New Zealand University Senate is tho representative of the Canterbury District Court of Convocation, has been declared duly re-elected, being the only person nominated. Nominations closed yesterday for the election ol a representative of Otago University to a seat on tho Senate of the University of New Zealand Tho nominations received hy the Registrar are those of Professor Marshall, Professor Gilray. Protessor White, and Mr J. Allan Thomson (first Rhodes scholar 1 ).

A farewell social wa.s given yester- i day evening at Sydenham to the Bey. j L. Hudson who is leaving Christchurch vo carry on his work in Timaru. Mr J. L. Scott was in the chair. The evening was occupied by speeches by the chairman Mr Scott, Mr L. M. Isitt. Mr T. W. West. Mr L. Berry, Mr J. Thomson. Mrs Peeeock, Sister Lilian and others. .Some musical items including some excellent, quartets, were given. Mr L. M. Isitt, MP., spoke in high terms of Mr Hudson's work. Mr Hudson., he said was going to Timaru, one of tho circuits most desired by Methodists. A presentation was made of a handsome rolitop desk to "Mr Hudson, anel of a ?et of fish-knives and forks to "Mrs Hud-r-on. on behalf Of the congregation. I The Sunday School presented Mrs j Hudson with a lady's handbag, "Miss Hudson with a gold brooch. Miss Lilian Hudson with a silver inkstand, and ! Mr Langdon Hudson with a set of eight books- Mr Hudson expressed his thanks to the congregation for their substantial expressions of goodwill, nnd his satisfaction that his wife and family* had hoen able to help him in his work, as they had done.
