In the, case between the Canterbury* Curriers' Union _ (termed the "union") and the companies- of Bowron Bros.' Export and Trading Company, Ltd., AValier Hill and Co., Lane and Co., and W. H. Travers, Mr Justice Sim ha-s

delivered an award which incluues the following: Hours of -Labour;—A week's work shall consist of 48 hours; the week to end at 12 o'clock on Saturday. The working hours shall be regulated between the hours of 7.15 a.m. and 6 p.m. on all days except Saturday, and between the hours of 7.15 a.m. and 12 noon on Saturdays, according to the. requirements ot each business. Every .employer shall bo entitled to the fullest control of his factory, and to, make such rules and regulations (not inconsistent with these provisions) as he may deem necessary for the proper management of his business. Overtime. —The first two hours' overtime on each cloy after the recognised hour for ceasing work shall be paid for at the rate of time and a-quarter, and after that at tho rate of time and. a-half. Wages.'—(a) The minimum wage for curriers shall be Is 3d per hour, (b) An employer may arrange with any worker to do work as piecework, provided a log for any such work, shall have been first agreed on with the Union. Until'such log snail have been, agreed on piecework" shall not be allowed. (c) Wages shall be paid at intervals of not more than a fortnight, two days lie time to be allowed. Holidays.—Tho following to lie the holidays: New Year's Day, Easter Monday, Labour Day, Snow Day, King's Birthday, Boxing Day, Good Friday, Christmas Day, and the local picnic day., Payment for Holidays. — Double time shall be paid for work done on Christinas Day, Good Friday, and Sundays. Timo and a-half shall be uaid for work done on New Year's Day, Easter Monday 2 _ Labour Day, Boxing Day { King's Birthday, and the local picnic day. Clauses dealing with machinery, working on the beam, classes of workmen, unskilled workers, apprentices, and under-rate workers, are also included. Preference is given to unionists. :-'Scope of Award.—This award shall apply to employers carrying on business in the Canterbury Industrial district. " • Term of Award.—This award shall come into force as from the 11th day of March, 1912, and shall continue in force till the 27th day of March, 1914.
