TRAMWAY ELECTIONS.
THE LABOUR PLATFORM
A general mooting of the Labour Representation Committee was held at the Trades Hall last night,'when Mr H. Hunter presided over a large attendance. New delegates wore received from the Tinsmiths' and Timber Workers' Unions. The recommendations of tho Executive Committee relative to tho platform to be adopted for tho Tramway Board election .were received and adopted as follows: — 1. Tho establishment of a Metropolitan Board of Works or Control to embody Tramway Board, City Council, Drainage Board, and any othor local body controlling any works within tho area served by any of those named witliiu the definition of a metropolitan area by Act of Parliament, and with necessary legislation to enable the electors to carry out the proposal. 2. Interlocking system of points and signals at tho Bank of New Zealand corner. 3. Promotion of staff on capability and seniority, with preference to local men in the Board's employ, other things being equal- -- Workers' cars, with special rates morning and evening. - 5. Popular charges on holiday Jrams to the seaside, .starting at an. hour earlier than at - present,. with special concessibn to families on special timetable cars. 6. Abolition of the merit and demerit system. It- was resolved that the platform bo submitted to all tho local unions,, branches of tho Labour Party, Trades ; and Labour Council. Burgesses' Association, and other progressive bodies, and that they be asked to submit their wishes in regard to its adoption, amendment or otherwise, ou or before April 20th, when tho platform will bo finally dealt with by tho coromittee. It-was resolved to ask the foregoing.bodies to submit tho names .of those who would bo eligible to stand as candidates under the auspices -of the Labour Representation Committc'e for seat's on the Tramway Board, sifch nominations to bo irt hands of the secretary by-8 p.nr. on April 29th. It was resolved to take no action in the 'matter of nominating a 'candidate for the Mayoralty. • -
