DALETHORPE.

Tho . Dalethorpo Estate, Uussdi's Flat, ucar Springfield, having boon recently sold by Mr Geo. Ituthcriord. the livo and dead stock w«o dispersed by auction yesterday, the sale conducted by the National Mortgage and Agenry Company. The estate vas a very eariy selection, having been faken up by tho late Messrs Wm. aud John Deans, some years after they had settled at Riccarton. In the early £o's they disposed of it to the late Mr J. C. Watts-Russell, after whom Russell's j Flat is named. He sold out to Messrs Douglass and Carter, and from them the piopeity was purchased by Mr Geo. Rutherford, who took possession en February 14th, 1373, aud has held it ever since. At that time thero were only 60 acres of freehold. Mr Uiitherford afterwards secured the ireeUold of 8000 acres from the Goveenment. and tho balance from the Midland Railway Company, the total area of _ the estate,'when disposed of, being 17.773 acres. The Homestead block, -if about t'ooo acres, is being retained by the Hon. G. J. Smith, ono of the purchasers of the estate. The back portion has been sold to Messrs Miiliken Bros., and two blocks of front country were offend at the sale yesterday, and passed in at £5 2s Cd.and £5 per acre. Tho Dalethorpo flock of/ merinos was or j South Australian blood, and tho wool, which was prepared for market under Mr Rutherford's personal superrisnn, has always brought high prices on the London market. The half bred sheep, by English Leicester rams, have always 6old well in the Addington and local salevards. -besides taking prises at various shows. Tho flock, as subm-'tted at the dispersal sale, showed evidence of carefurbrecding and culling, being exceptionally oven and well-grown-and in healthy condition. The nierinos were late shorn, and looked lighter than they-really were. There was a very large attendance at the sale, at which Messrs A. Smith and Liiico officiated as salesmen, and bidding was fairly spirited throughout. The sheep told veil, but, considering their quality incf condition, the prices were not considers! high, though they were very satisfactory. Most of the sheep wero purchased to remain in the district, and a portion of the flock will go back on to the property.
