CHOOSING A LEADER.
(SPECIAL TO "THB PRESS"). WELLINGTON, March 19. The members of the Government party aro slowly arriving in Wellington to attend the Government caucus. Mr Macdonald, tho Junior Whip, arrived from Gisborne to-day Sir Arthur Guinness has also arrived from tho West Coast, en route to Australia. Ho will not bo a candidate for the leadership. The members of the party are not at nil cheerful about their prospects. It is understood that some mombers will refuse to attend tho caucus, and this will be very awkward in connection with tho choice of a leader, seeing that unanimity is so desirable. It is anticipated that more than one member of the party will he proposed, and that a discussion on tho merits of each will take place, and subsequently a vote will be taken to decide which candidate carries greatest weight with tho party.

WELLINGTON, March 19. At present opinion is inclined towards the selection of tho Hon. J. A. Millar as tho Prime Minister, but there aro difficulties in tho way which, however, it is hoped by thoso desirous of avoiding a dissolution, may bo overcome. In any case it is almost cctain that. Mr Millar and Mr T. Mackenzie will be the only members of tho existing Cabinet who will remain when the reconstruction has been effected. It is regarded as certain that tho new Cabinet will include Messrs W. D. S. Macdonald, J. A. Hanan, A. M. Myers, and G. Laurenson.
