Tho late express from tho south yesterday brought up a number of members of tho Government party, who proceeded by tho Maori to Wellington. The southern members included the Hon. J. A. Millar (Minister of Railways), Mr J. A. Hanan (Invercargill), and Mr T. Buxton (Temuka). They wero accompanied by Dr. Buck (To Rangihiroa), the northern,' Maori member, who has been spending a holiday at Milton. Tho party wero joined at Christchurch by tho Hon. D. Buddo, Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr T. H. Davey, and Mr Geo. Witty. Rumour has associated all tho private members named as probable members of the now Ministry, and the comment last evening was to the effect that they were tho advance guards which will confer beforo tho general party conference on Thursday. Mr Millar, when approached, had nothing to say about the political situation. He had no engagements beyond Thursday next, and did not know when he would be returning South. The other members were equally uncommunicative. They conveyed the impression that they did not know what tho future had in store for any of them as far as Ministerial prospects wero concerned. Mr Buxton has been mentioned in South Canterbury as a possible Minister for Agriculture, and Mr J. A. Hanan has been spoken of as a certainty for the Attorney- Generalship. Mr Davey and Mr Witty, with tho other Cantorbury members, have each been associated with Ministerial rank. Tho other members of the party will pass through to-day.
