CASUALTIES.
Shortly after midday yesterday a tram car from Sumner ran into a taxi-cab opposite Petersen's, in street. It appears that the taxi-cab was going m tho direction of the Clock Tower when i tho driver, desiring to turn, crossed in front of the incoming car, but cut things too fine, with the result that tho Tender of the tram car struck the taxi-cab in the rear. There were four ladies in the taxi-cab, and they escaped with a severe shaking. The taxicab, which belongs to Mr Allan Hopi kins, did not appear to be very much i damaged. . A portion of the step of tho tram car was broken. An accident happened to two motorcare returning from Hawarde* salo on Friday. Mr J. N. Macdonald, who was driving the leading car, slowed down to pass a mob of sheep on the road, when Mr It. Evans, who was following, collided, damaging a back-tyre of the front car and one of lie own lamps.
(PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS.) HAMILTON, March 18. Mrs Foote died in the Waikato Hospital while undergoing an operation. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned. HASTINGS, March 18. George Honry Matthews, aged 19, died on Saturday night, as the result of colliding with a trap on March 9th, whilo ovcling in Horetaunga street. REEFTON, March 18. J. Roberts, engineer of the Buller Junction dredge, was killed to-day. It is supposed that ho was caught on tho elevator shaft.
