BURNSIDE DISPERSAL SALE.

GOOD PRICES FOR CLYDESDALES. (BT OCR SPECIAL REPORTER.) OAMARU, February 27. The dispersal sale of Mr J. F. Reid's Clydesdale stud and flocks of stud sheep took place at the homestead, Burnside, near Oamaru, yesterday. There was a large attendance of buyers from Otago, Southland, Canterbury, Nelson, Hawke's Bay, and' Australia. The visiting and Oamaru buyers were conveyed to Burnside in motor cars and drags, and they were hospitably entertained by Mr Reid. The draught horses were displayed for Bale in excellent condition, and the arrangements for the sheep sale were most complete. There was keen competition for the draught mares, combining, as they did, the best of the old and modern Clydesdale blood. They have descended from stock that has been famous in the district from early times, and the demand varied with different breeders according to their fancy for the crosses contained in the mares. Three colts rising two-years-old were offered, a styiisn black by Baron Fyvie out of Moore Belle going to Mr \V. Gardiner, junr., of Papaknio, at 90gs. A very neat bay colt by the same horse out of Emerald XX. was run up to lllgs, at which figure he was knocked down to Mr Sidney Smith, of Lincoln. A very light bay colt, the heaviest boned of the three, but whose colour was against him, wus cheap at 42gs to Mr R. Clark, of Tinwald. Tho brood maro Duchess, by Lord Salisbury, with a weight of 17J years upon her, was sold, together with a filly foal by Black Knight, to Mr W. J. Taylor, of Ashburton, at 21 gs. Young Heather Bell, a nine-year-old,' by Sandy Erskine, went to Mr E. E. Jenkins, of Waddington, at 71 gs, and he had to pay 33gs to secure her filly foal by Black Knight. Mr JR. Acton Adams,"of Moa Flat, was the purchaser of Mollie, eleven years old, by Crown Prince, at 53gs. The top price at the sale was made by Laura Erskine, a , nine-year-old mare by Sandy Erskine, Mr John Ross giving 155gs for her, and a four-year-old daughter by Agitator, went to the same buyer at 92gs. Mr R. Sowerby, of Hawke's Bay, bought the eleven-year-old maro Emerald XX. for 53gs, and Duchess of Burnside, seven years old, by Agitator, with a filly foal by Black Knight, fell to Mr R. Acton Adams at 70gs. The next lot, Laura 11., eight years old, also by Agitator, was run up to 153 gs, at which figure she was knocked down to Mr G. McLaughlin, of Darfield. Messrs E. and W. Mason, of Hawarden, secured Princess of Wales X., a six-year-old mare by Agitator, at 74gs. Maori Belle, a black daughter of Agitator, was purchased by Mr McLaughlin at 125gs, and another to go over the 100-guinea mark was Beauty 11, seven, years old, by Agitator, who was bought by Messrs Thomson and Co., of Dunedin, for 136gs. Tho Pride of Newton filly, Maude 11., three years of age, fell to Mr John Ross at 103gs, and the same buyer secured another three-year-old by Agitator, out of Young Heather 8011, at 98gs. A yearling filly, by Pride of Newton out of Duchees or Burnside, went to Mr R. Acton-Adams at 56gs, and the same buyer took another yearling filly by Baron Fyvio out of Laura Erskino, at 35gs. A yearling filly by Baron Fyvie out of Mollie, and a yearling gelding, were purchased by Mr D. G. Wright, of Windermere, at 35ge and 20gs respectively. Though all the sheep were disposed of, there was mot a very keen demand, and prices were hardly co good as was expected, considering the breeding and quality ,of the flocks. Most of the sheep went" to local, southern Otago, awl Southland breeders. A few lots were purchased by r Canterbury, Nelson, and Hawke's Bay buyers. A line of Romney Marsh stud rams was bought by Mr P. Reynolds, of New South Wales, and two pens of Lincoln ram lambs by Mr W. N. Ellis, of Mount Gambler, South Australia. The result of the sheep sale was as follows: — Romney Marsh—Six and eight-tooth ewes, ljgs; four-tooth ewes, 2igs; twetooth, ewes, 2gs to 6gs; lino of lambs, llgs to 2gs; aged stud rams, -Bgs to 36gs; fonr-tooth rams, 7gs to 26gs; twotooth rams, 3gs to 18gs; two-tooth flock rams, 2}gs to 4gs; ram lambs; ligs to 4*ge. Border Leicesters —Six and eight-tooth stud ewee, lg to ligs; four-tooth Iβ to ligs; two-tooth ewes, ligs to 2gs; line of lambs, 3g to lg; aged stud rams, 6gs to 20gs; two-tooth rami. 3gs to llgs; two-tooth flock rams, 22gs to 3igs; ram lambs, lg to ljgs. Lincolns —Six and eight-tooth stud ewes, lg to 13gs; aged owes, Jg; twotooth, Iβ to 12gs; stud rams, 12gs to 32gs; two-tooth flock rams, ligs to 3rs; ram lambs, ljjgs. The salesmen were Messrs McDonald and Jenkins. for Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co.; Mr Maling, for Messrs Guinness and LeCren; ,and Mr C. W. Reid represented Messrs Pyne and Co.
