NOTES.

The Returning Officer for ChrisV church North and his staff were busily at work throughout Saturday, making a scrutiny of tho votes cast on Thursday. The re-count will be made to-day, and the votes of absentees will also be included. The Christchurch East re-count will also, take place to-day. There are about 80 absentee votes to be, considered, and this may have a bearing on the second ballot candidature. Tho totals, as announced on Thursday night, find which did not include the absentee votes, gave Mr Davey a lead of 42 votes over Mr Hunter. One of the Returning Officers wishes to point out, in reply to many en- - quiries, that everybody on the roll can vote at the second baflot, and not necessarily those only who voted at the first ballot. In tho Selwyn returns was one from a booth j»ipen as Lake Coleridge. This should have been Rakaia Forks, where most of tho workers at the Lake voted, the residents mostly going to the booth at Snowden. Tho vote recorded at "Lake Coleridge" was largely in favour of the Government candidato for Selwyn, and residents state that for such a vote to be taken as representing the feeling of the district would be erroneous to a degree. Mr T. H. Davey will not speak at Clarence road to-day, in order not to clash with Mr L. M. Isitt, who is also announced to deliver an address at tho sometime. As a result of the interest taken in the Kaiajvoi election, Mr Moore has received a number of telegrams and letters, wishing him success. These came from districts between Auckland and tho Bluff and the West Coast, most of the messages being* from Wellington. Mr"T>avid Jones will deliver an address in St. Paul's schoolroom, Papanui, on Wednesday evening, in which ho will analyse Dominion politics and deal with the cost of living.
