BUILDERS' CONFERENCE.
(press association telegram.) AUCKLAND. November 17. The New Zealand Federated Buildere adopted a resolution that the extra freight on foreign timbers charged on the New Zcalaiia railways was not in. the host intere&ts of tho builders or the public, and should be discontinued. After a lengthy debate it was resolved that tho Conference should approve of tho Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act; that tho Court be amended by tho appointment of two experts, by advisors, or by a repre&entativo elected for each trade; also that the Act should bo amended to allow tlio term of tlio award to bo extended to five years; and that a legal eentleman should bo the chairman of the Court. Tho motion will be referred to tho executive to deliberate, and to consult the various Associations before- forwarding tho recommendations to the Government. It was resolved to hold tho next, Conference- in Dunedin. The officers elected were:—President, Mr W. Ward (Hawke's Bay); vicepresident, Mr J. Lindsay; treasurer, Mr P. C. "Watt: secretary. Mr W. A. Grenfell; executive, Messrs W. H. Bennett. W. I*. Thompson, A. Campbell, and J. Nicholson.
