MINISTERS IN TOWN.
A QUIET DAY,
The Acting-Prime Minister (Sir James Carroll), tlio Minister of Education (the Hon. G. Fowlds), and the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. l>. Buddo), were in town yesterday.
Each Minister received eerernl private deputations. The Hon. Mr Fewlds visited Te Oranga Home during the afternoon, with some visitors from Auckland.
The Hon. D. Buddo paid a brief visit to Rnngiora, returning to town in the afternoon.
Tho -Ministers left for the North last evening.
TRADES COUNCIL EXHIBITION
Yesterday afternoon the Acting-Prime Minister, who was accompanied by Mr T. H. Davey, M.P., was conducted by Mr F. Meyer, secretary of the Trades Council Exhibition Committee, to the Olympia Rink, where the Exhibition is to be held. Mr Meyer explained the general scheme of illumination, decoration, and arrangement of exhibits, and quite convinced Sir James that the local committee are sparing no pains to make the exhibition a huge success. It was mentioned that the Tramway Board would be asked to illuminate the verandah over tho rink entrance, something After tho fashion of the Coronation car, and that other illuminations would prob ably be hung across the street. The Tourist Offico is undertaking someor the internal decoration. 6ir James said that ho was very favourably impressed with the prospects of tho exhibition being a successful one and he remarked that it was the first of the Kind to bo held in New Zealand, if not m the world, by working men. Ho thought that it his Excellency tho Governor were approached, he would consent to visit Christchurch and open the exhibition.
