CENSUS RETURNS.
MR R.EDMQND AND THE FINAN-
CIAL QUESTION

LONDON. May 27. Tho census of Ireland shows the population to be 4..351.951.
A sensation has been caused in Dublin by the publication of a letter from Mr Redmond, dissociating himself beforehand from the findings of tho Committee appointed the other day to consider the financial relations between Great Britain and Ireland. He states that ho stands on thc report of the Childers Commission, nnd declares he reserves absolute liberty of action to his party in the critical and trying times before them.
The population of Ireland at the List census, in 1901, was 4,4.8,775. The decrease, however, is not nearly so great a.s in the previous decade, when the population shrank from 4,701,750 to -1.453.775. In 1821. the. population wns 6.801,827, and rose to its maximum, b,170,12-l, in 1841.
