Dr. Mawson, who is visiting Sydney in connection with the Science Congress, hopes to start his Antarctic expedition from Melbourne in November. H> has assurances of sufficient funds, mainly from England, but hopes for further Australian support, so that he will be able to call it an Australian expedition. The area proposed to be covered will be within range of wireless telegraphy from the Bluff. He expects to solve Various Australian problems. Referring to the reported Japanese Antarctic expedition, he says that it seems from the reports that their equipment is quite inadequate for Polar work. He thinks it may bo that their object really is to exploit tne seal oil and pelt industry.
