ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET.

'Th* weekly stock, sale was held at tho A shin, ton yards yesterday, when there was a fairly good attendance, and the yarding was a good average ore, and great interest was taken in the sale owing to the recent rains. The yarding consisted of 12— sheep, of which 384 were fat ewes, 65 fat wethers, 38 fat hoggets, 154 fat lambs, and 506 store sheep. Owing to farmers and graziere culling out the dry ewes at shearing time, "there was again a large number of fat ewes, and the quality, despite the shortage of feed, was exceptionally good, and, with the exception of a few lines of woolly ewes, the whole yarding changed hands at prices slightly helow those ruling at last week's sale, while for fat wethers, of which there were only a few, prices were higher. The yarding of fat lambs doubled that of the previous week, but the bulk were not up to freezing weights, and prices were easier. Prices obtained were as follows:—Shorn ewes, prime 1_ 2d to Pis 9d, extra heavy Down ewes lis Gd to 10s, medium weights 10s od to lis 10d, light weights 9s od to 9s 9d, woolly ewes 10s i.klj shorn wethers, heavy weights 16s 9d to 17s od, otheis 14* Od to 15s 9d: shorn hoggets 12s 9d, and freezing lambs 12s Id to lis (id. Sale*, of lambs were:—l at lis Id, '22 at 14s 3d, 10 at 14s 6d, 14 at 13s 10d, <J at 11. Id, 05 at 13s lOd. The ram ot late brightened up the store sheep market, and although the entry was a small one, there was spirited _ competition, and, with two exceptions, the yarding changed hands at auction. Tne principal sales were: —70 sound and failing-mouth half and three-quarte.--bred ewes in wool and 69 lambs (all counted) Ids od. 75 ditto (shorn) and 76 lambs (all counted) 8s sd. 30 fullmouth halfbred ewes (shorn) and 2(> lambs (all counted), Cs 2d, 79 fullmouth shorn merino ewes and 61 lambs (all counted) o_, I*s sound and failingmouth three-quarterbred woolly ewes and 97 land, (all counted) 9s 4d, aged dry ewes made lis 9d to 7s 7d, and shorn wether hoggets 8s Ud and shorn ewe hogget. 12s Id, all in small linos. There w-as a good demand for tat cattle, and pricft* were: —Fat cows £6 10> to £7 ss. fat heifers £4 Pis 6d to £5 12s (id. There was little demand for stores, steers making £3 7s 6d to £3 10s, and heifers £2 10s, cows in profit £3 to £6 2s 6d.
