RANGIORA.
The animal Catholic concert given v-l Rangiora on Friday evening was largely attended, and the programme was well received. Tho first, part comprised songs, given by Misses M. O'Connor and F. Gardiner, Messrs 0. Fotterill and J. Kennedy: humorous items by Mr H. Glubb; double Irish jig by Miss G. O'Connor and Mr 33. 0"Connor : a eight-handed Irish reel -»as given by a party; overtures were given by Misses Donaldson, Hollier, and D-nnn. Tho second part consisted cf a laughable dramatic piece, entitled '•My Turn Next, ,, the parts being well tak'en by Misses R. Fanning, R. Redmond, and B. Fanning, and Messrs H. Glubb. F. McDonald, and C. Young. At Rangiora, on the two show nights, .a plain, iancy dress, and postbr car•nival on skates was held in the Trnll Hall, there being a good attendance each evening. Prizes were given for the best fancy dress, comic dress, and most elaborate dress, also for the best poster costume, and the most graceful skaters for ladies and gentlemen, and tho competition was keen, there being quite a pretty display. The monthly meeting of the llangiora Boroufh Council was held on Friday evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr A. B. Blackett). Crs. Jennings, Sansom, Carmichael, "Walker, Good and Bridget. The Public Trustee notified that the gas loan of £2000 was granted at A\ per cent., and the same "was accepted, as everything was now passed. It was decided to accept Mr Lane's offer to attend the town clock as formerly. The Ashley Road Board notified that as the iron was ordered for the traffic bridge tho Council's share towards the cost was demanded l>y the Ist of. November. The gas manager wrote, accepting the lighting of the town during the summer nights, and the matter was left in the hands of tho Lighting Committee to arrange. A special order was made to strike a rate respecting the gas works loan. The monthly financial statement was as follows:— Receipts £180 2s 6d ; expenditure, £141 12s; debit balance at bank, £756 6s 7d. Gas account receipts. £14G 13s lid; expenditure, £75 11s 6d. It was decided to place concrete half-pipes over the culverts across the end of Ashley and Edward streets, and also to connect the Council office, the gas works and the manager's house with the telephone bureau. It wn* decided to prosecute the owners of all dogs unregistered in a week's time.
