SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.

There were present at the meeting of tho Selwvn County Council yesterday— Messrs G. Witty, M.P. (chairman), J. Storry. J. ."Wolfe. K. Wilson. J. Henderson', T. D. Boag, G. Bedford, ]>. McMillan. A letter was received from Mr iv. Wilson, stating that he was advised that tho action of the Council in transferring plantation revenue to the general account and using it as ordinary revenue -was illegal, and he proposed to take the matter to the Supreme Court if necessary, but before doing to he suggested that the Council's solicitor be consulted. He gave notice to move tlt-.it a separate account be kept for plantation revenue. The matter was held over, pending receipt of the solicitor's "opinion. A letter was received from the county solicitor stating that Mr T. D. Botig was, in his opinion, qualified to sit on the Council for the Riccarton riding of the county, notwithstanding the rcver_nee of the portion of the riding in which his property was situated, and its inclusion in the new Waimuiri County, j The sum of £6 wa_ granted tho Trus- , tees of the Hororata Cemetery for im- j proving the cemetery. After discussion, it was decided that ! the Council again make a grant of £2-5 to the Technical College, an amend- , raent by Mr J. Wolfe tnat the amount |bo decreased to £20 being lost. I Mr Wolfe niovtd, and Mr Wilson ' fi.cond-d, tliat the schools imparting tt-chnical knowledge in tlie country be granted £25 each. The motion was*car- : ried. Messrs C. Derrett and C. Wolfe were i granted permission to transfer their re- ; serves to other tenants. ! It was decided to write to tho Government, asking it to rest tlie Empire bridge in the Waimairi County Council. Mr J. Storry "was .-.pointed the Council's delegate to tho Counties Conferenc-*. A cony of the by-laws of the Ashburton County Council for controlling .he bridges under tlie jurisdiction of the Council was. received, end it was decided that "the local Council adopt the Ashburton by-laws, _.id that a- copy of them be sent to each member.
