MEETING OF CREDITORS.

IN RE RICHARD HANDCOCK

A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Richard Handoock, cf Christchurch, land and estate agent, was held yesterday at the office of the Official 'Aissigneo (Mr Evans). Mr A. -Bit-iop represented bankrupt, and Mr A. Cant, representing the Press Company, was the only creditor present. Bankrupt's statement showed unsecured creditors £123 Bs, assets (office furniture) £7 10s, deficiency £115 18s. Of the amount owing to unsecured creditors, £45 tvcs due to private creditors, the Brett Publishing Company, Ltd., Auckland, and tbe balance, amounting to £78 Bs, was set down as due to creditors of the firm of Handcock and Ennis. The principal amounts owing under the latter head wero as follows:—New Zealand Handbook, Shippers' and Importers' Guide, etc., £5, Wi?e and Co., £6, Stone and Co., £6, Christchurch Press Company, £23 ie 2d, Lyttelton Times Company .32 2s Gd. .Bankrupt, in his (nvorn statement, said that prior to February last year he -was in business on his. own acoount. On February sth' l:<.st year he entered into partnership with Mr T. J. Ennis, L-aoh subscribing £40. Tlie partnership had not been a siiccere, and they had never drawn anything from tho business t-xcept actual office expenses. Bankrupt had some timo ago suggested a dissolution of partnership, but his partner would not agree. Bankrupt's wife had a little property of her own, and on that he and his wife had been living. Bankrupt had no property beyond the office furniture and had been forced to file through pressure of creditors. The Official Assignee said tlie amounts owing were mostly debts of the firm and consequently the surviving member (Mr Ennis) became liable. Mr Ennis was endeavouring to como to some arrangement by which ho «vould pay tho creditors something at once and the balance according to any agreement arrived at. As Mr Ennis was taking over tbe liabilities, it was only fair that he should take over the nt-sots also.
