POLICE CASES
One first offender was fined Ss and costs, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Another first offender, after a week's medical attention, appeared on a charge of helpless drunkenness, and was fined 20s and costs, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment.
Wm. Adams and Mary Ann Landells were convicted of drunkenness and sentenced to forty-eight hours' imprisonment on a charge of indecency. Minnie Goodman, charged witb vagrancy, was discharged. Wm. Brown was remanded till Wednesday on a charge of obtaining £18 from Scott Bros, by means of false pretences. Bail was allowed, accused in £50 and one surety of £50. Mr E. T. Harper appeared for defendant.
CIVIL CASES. Judgment ->vas given for plaintiffs -with costs by default in tho following cases:—John Wm. Archer v. Chas. Hurt, £1 16s; P. and D. Duncan (Mr TJpham) v. Henry Cram-field, £21 Gs 4d; Gerald F. Gray (Sir Hunter) v. Mrs S. M. Rountree, 7. 6d. Ethel Cuthbertson (Mr Donnelly) claimed possession of photographs, a harp, limelight lantern, flatirona, and other articles, valued at £10, from G. Michaels. The defendant did not appear, ■ and the Magistrate, after hearing evidence for the plaintiff,, assessed the value of tbe articles at £8, and ordered their return within one week.
