PAPANUI PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
A bazaar in aid of the fund for the extinction of the debt on the manse of tho Papanui Presbyterian Church was opened in St. Paul's Schoolroom, Papanui, yesterday afternoon, by the Hon. D. Buddo. An excellent display of useful and ornamental articles was made in the stalls, and altogether the bazaar proved a success. The following were the stall-holders:—Plain goods, Mesdames Briggs and Graham ; fancy goods, Mesdames Marshall, Joseph McFadden, Bryan, and Miss MacKay; flower stall, Mrs Norton j Miss J. \ Murray; produce stall, Mesdames Bobbitte and Kruse; refreshments, Mesdames MacKay, Miller, Mtinro, Misses Irvine and Murray; lollies, Mrs Caverhill, Misses Caverhill (2) and Jessie Reid; bookstall, Masters Allan Freeman, C. Wilson, J. Hansen; post office, Masters Allan Freeman, T. Wilson, W. Munro, and S. Dalloy; Christmas tree, Misses McFadden, Eva Preston, and M. Freeman; doll and fancy stall. Misses Annie Reid and Morgan. Among the attractions provided were a shooting gallery, hat trimming and nail driving competitions, guessing and buttonhole competitions. The cake competition resulted as follows .-—Mrs Caverhill,- Ist for sponge sandwich and scones; Miss Dunlop, Ist for queen cakes; Mrs Simpson, 2nd fot queen cakes; Miss Reid, Ist for Madeira cake and shortbread; Miss Preston, Ist for sponge cakes; Miss McFadden, Ist for scones and 2nd for sponge sandwich; Mrs McFadden, Ist for girdlo scones;. Mrs Clark. Ist for seed cake. The cake competition was in charge of Mrs Cook and Miss Graham.
The clergyman of tho church, -The Rev. D. Rodger, introduced the Hon. D. Buddo, who iv a brief speech wished the bazaar success.
