ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

A meeting of the council of the AcI climatisation Society was held last night, when Mr G. B. Ritchie preside-]. A letter was road from Mr Whitesides, stating that ho could not sec his -tvay to withdraw his resignation. It j was resolved that the resignation be accepted. A letter was received from tlie Minister of Internal Affaire, stating that he regretted he. could not advise tho Governor to make an exception in favour of tho duck-diootins season being opened for the year 1910 in any district. A deputation waited on tho Council urging that the season should be closed, and presented a petition signed by oil sportsmen in favour of a close season once every three years, as proposed by the Government. The chairman eaid that the Government had acted on a remit from the various Acclimatisation Societies agreed to by the conference of Acclimatisation Societies. The Canterbury society, after considering the matter, came to a decision that tlie close season was necessary. There was not, he thought, any chance of the Minister opening the season. The council decided to leave tho matter uhere it was. A statement of accounts in connection with the deer from 1903 was presented. The receipts amounted to _3t5'2 (is od, and the expenditure to £559 7s Bd. The excess of expenditure will bo recouped by license fees, vhich this year amounted to £40. it was resolved that a collection of types of heads of deer from various portions of tho Dominion should be procured for the Museum for educational purposes, and that the Otago and Wairarapa Societies be communicated with on the subject. The matter was left in the hands of Dr. Moorhouse and Mr Sloman.

The date of the annual meeting was fixed for Friday, April 22nd.
