Acceptances for several first day events at the Canterbury Jockey Club's Summer Meeting close at o'clock this evening. At the same time a subscription of 5 soys falls due for the Middle Park Plate.
In the handicaps for the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's February Meeting, Motor, 14sec, was omitted from the Queen's Handicap. An offer of £1500 was made during the Wellington R.C. Meeting tor Crucinella by a would-be purchaser for Australia. The value set on the mare was deemed to be too high, and no business resulted.
The Riccarton trainer T. Cotton, junr.j intends shifting his headquarters to Trentham, and J. McCombe has decided to start training operations at Wingatui. Two well-known Northern horsemen in F. D. Jones and H. Price will oe in attendance at the C.J.C. Summer Meeting. A promising colt by Sarto from Venetia, owned by Sir Geo. McLean, got one of its fetlocks broken last week through being kicked, and had to be destroyed.
It is quite on the cards that Gold .Lace will be taken to Australia for some of the autumn meetings there.
