EMPIRE VAUDEVILLE COMPANY
There was a large and enthueiaetio audience at the Opera House-last night, when several new artists appeared. Of these Lamb and Heath, who un till recently were coalminers at Newcastle, N.S.W., sang the duet "Lore and War" excellently, the voices blending TV ell. It seemed, however, somewhat out of place to sing a duet of this character* attired as colliers and with safety lamps burning. It would 'be more appropriate to nave a mine setting for a song having reference to miners. the two new artiste at once established themselves as very great favourites with the audience. The double turn might be made very effective by the introduction of a little dialogue, scenery, and a few properties. Miss Nina Gonialee, another of the new acquisitions, sang a coon eong well, and was exceedingly clever in her acrobatic dancing. Mr Joe Rox was very good as an eccentric dancer, and altogether the four new turns went with much, spirit and success. % Miss Priscilla A'erne and Mr Tom ""Armstrong appeared in a comedy sketch, which went well, and at the close eang "Give My Regards io Broadway," in the refrain of which tho audience joined very heartily. Tho Duckworths did some clever acrobatic feats, and the National Duo were excellent in an Irish song, "Miss KilJarney,' [ th« jig following which tv danc."! with great spirit. Miss Meryl Laurence sang a couple of ballads well, her illustrated song, "Moonlight on the Prairie." being enthusiastically encored Miss Pearl Smail, Mr Ward Lear, ami the Martin Sisters in their respective turns were warmly applauded, Mr Lear having to respond to numerous To-night the same bill will be given. FULLER'S PICTURES. The large Colosseum building was again well filled laet night, when the current programme of Fuller's pictures was repeated with success. To-night the same ret of films will be shown. PATHE PICTURES. The fine selection of Pathe pictures,. presented at His Majesty's Theatre for the first time on Saturday night, attracted a large attendance last night. The pictures were well and were highly appreciated. To-night the programme will be repeated. THE CORNISH PIXIE. The receptions by the Cornish Pixie were well attended yesterday, despite the unfavourable weather. Mnch interest was shown in this wonderful example of miniature humanity. To-day tho receptions will be continued. BESSES 0 , ThHbaRN BAND. The plan of reserved scab? for the five nights concert* at His Majesty's Theatre in connection with the Besses o' th . Barn Bard, will open at the Dresden thk morning, at 10 o'clock. The season will open on Tuesday next, Bth inst. As owing to other engagements the stay of the band will be brief, a change of proeranime will be piven each evening. Since their last visit a number of new sslections, j>tc, have been added to the repertoire of the band, and these will be heard on this cccssicn.
