The Waltham Swimming Club held & SOyd» race (the first of a seriee of four) on Thursday. The following wae the result:—First heat: J. White 1. VT. Cox and C. O'Keefe also started. Second beat: T. Hannen 1X. Bradley, S. Fowke, and T. Hunt also stariedt Third heat: W. Harding 1. B. Fowke, G. Smith, and E. Smith also siaited. Fourth heat: J. McNish 1. T. Burgees, J. Greenwood, end B. Al'.inghiun also etarted. Final heat: W. Harding 1, T. Hannen 2. All qualified etarted. In connection with the local team competing at the New Zealand Swimming Championship Meeting at Auckland next :ionth. W. ilanhire has challenged H. Rich for his place in the team, the trial to be held over SBO yards; F. E. Cookson and Atkinson have challenged A. Russell for the 220 yds breast stroke, and Atkinson has challenged F. E. Dodge for the shorter distance. The challenge distance wiii be 220 yards. The trials will take place this week, the date and bath to be decided to-night.
