HUGE LOSSES LAST YEAR.

An analysis of the balance-sheets of 100 typical Lancashire cotton mills, containing eight million, spindles, shows a loss of £272,072, or 8 per cent, during the year. lieepito the heavy deficiency, the dividends average 7J per cent. This has been rendered possible by the fact that the companies wrote their stock down to a normal figure during the "boom" years.
