ART SOCIETY.

PRESENTATION OF MEDALS.

The loan exhibition in connection with the Art Society came to a. conclusion on Saturday evening, when there was a good attendance of visitors. Opportunity was taken to present the medals won in the competition for students of the School of Art for the year 1909. The. President, Mr James Jamieson, said that for some time past the Canterbury Art Society had awarded prizes to the pupils of the School of Art for competitive work. That institution had done remarkably good work in the various branches of art taught there, and he felt sure it continue to do so. Referring to the exhibition of loan pictures, Mr Jamieson said' that the afctendance had been fairly good, and he felt sure that the expectation of the Council that the loan exhibition would prove of great educational value to the community by raising the standard of art to a higher level would be realised. The medals were then distributed as follow: — Study of a head from life, in colour: Silver medal, Miss E. Bennett. Bronze medal, Miss C. Gundersen.
